Dr. Van Veen began his career practicing optometry in a comprehensive ophthalmology practice in Spartanburg, SC from 2000 to 2003. There he practiced comprehensive eyecare including co-management of refractive, cataract and cornea surgeries. In 2003, Dr. Van Veen joined TLC to concentrate primarily on refractive surgery. Dr. Van Veen is a recognized national speaker on refractive surgery, laser vision correction and anterior segment eye disease. He has been a clinical investigator having participated in studies such as Topographical and Refractive Stability after Contact Lens Removal and Impact of Ocular Surface Health on Patient Satisfaction and Outcomes Following Refractive Surgery. Dr. Van Veen has consulted for leading ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies.
In June of 2021, Dr. Van Veen entered the next phase of his career and purchased Optical Express from Dr. Richard Straker. He has expanded the practice to include diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. He is excited to grow the practice and serve Easley and its surrounding communities.
Comprehensive and diabetic eye exams, contact lenses, cataract/LASIK/PRK co-management, pediatric eye exams, ocular foreign bodies/injuries, red eyes, glaucoma and other ocular disease management.
Dr. Van Veen received his Doctor of Optometry and Masters of Science in Physiological Optics from the University of Alabama Birmingham. He completed externships at the Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital and Jervey Eye Group. Dr. Van Veen completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Furman University.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS / HONORS
Dr. Van Veen is a member of the American Optometric Association, SC and the Optometric Physicians Association. Dr. Van Veen served 10 years on the South Carolina Board of Examiners in Optometry appointed by the Governor of South Carolina. He has served as both President and Vice President of the SC Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Van Veen is a past President and Vice President for the Piedmont Optometric Society.
Dr. Van Veen is married with one son. Besides optometry and family, he has a passion for golf, wakeboarding, snowboarding and fantasy football.
